2020 UWACS Co-President

Business Analyst at Velrada

Non-Executive Director at WAUC

  • What did you study during university and what role did you have at UWACS?

I studied a Masters of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UWA. During my time at UWACS, I served as the Secretary and Vice President, before taking on the role of Co-President.

  •  What is your role currently?

I am currently a Business Analyst at Velrada.

  • What are the best skills you developed as a member of UWACS which has helped you in your current role?

Being on UWACS allowed me to gain a comprehensive toolkit of skills which are crucial to my day-to-day work as an analyst! These include skills such as strong relationship management (with internal and external stakeholders), written and verbal communication, presentation, 80/20 problem solving and teamwork. Joining UWACS also allowed me to learn how to build professional networks, which is also a core skill in any industry you're in.

  • What would be your advice/tips to UWACS members who are looking to apply for management consulting roles?

    1. Do your homework - Read up about the company/division you're applying for by reaching out to people working in similar roles (LinkedIn or Googling). Really understand what you could be doing. This shows you have given some thought about the role itself

    2. Be yourself  - Let your individuality shine through in your application and avoid using cookie cutter responses. Frameworks like STAR give you a starting point to build on. Bring in personal anecdotes and remember the interviewer is human too and wants you to succeed!

    3. Be curious - Prepare meaningful questions so that you have a fruitful Q&A - you can ask about the industry, the company happenings based on current news, what it's like to be on specific projects, or anything else you are interested in!

    4. Adjust your resume and cover letter for every role you apply for instead of using the same one for every application. Use the job role description and the research you've done as a guide to adjust anything from the layout/order of your experiences, aesthetic, language, etc.
