Meet Nathan

• What did you study during university and what role did you have at UWACS?

  I studied Law and Finance double degree (LLB). I founded UWACS so was the President for the first 2 years.

• What is your role currently?

  I'm currently the COO at Open Insurance Group which is a growth fintech in insurance. I joined when we were 10 people and had 3k customers and we're now a lot larger at 100k customers and 150 people. We're just about to turn into profitability which is exciting.

• What does a day in your life look like for you?

  I usually spend Mondays/Tuesdays problem solving with my team in individual meetings and aligning on the direction, this can be anything from people decisions, supply chain, strategies, process improvement etc. I have no meeting Wednesdays for my deep thinking then Thurs/Fri is a bit of both.

• How did UWACS help your career?

  UWACS was critical in terms of helping my career. I'd say the three main benefits were (1) really getting to understand and learn about problem solving, (2) getting to meet people actually in the firms, (3) most importantly, being able to surround myself with like-minded people who drove me further and are still some of my absolute closest friends 7 years later.

• How did you first find out about management consulting, and what drew you towards it as a career?

  I first found out about management consulting a year before founding UWACS where I met some people who had just came out of an internship at BCG. I was going down the path of investment banking and I changed direction quite quickly! You're able to work on very real business problems and get executive level exposure so earlier on. I still don't think there's a better place to start your career.
